Spoken like a true northeasterner. I moved away from the coast so that I could quit dealing with folks who think customer service is all about the almighty dollar. Good Customer Service is about being nice to your fellow human.

Customer service? Let's talk about Reader service. For the last several months I've arrived in my dismal grey cubicle -- coffee cup in hand -- and faithfully scrolled past other subscriptions in my google reader to find your latest entry. Your pace slowed as you fixed up your Baltimore place, and while I was disappointed, I understood. And sure, I'll bet you've got a lot going on what with all your major life changes. But I ask you -- and perhaps I represent the other Baltimorons you've left behind -- Write a new entry, Sutton. Perhaps post it tomorrow? I can already see myself starting my Friday with your blog and a warm sense of nostalgia for the Diz and happy hours past.

Moo.

Here's the customer service fact of life: if you're a business frequent-flyer, you will get better service (not much, but some) than the family traveling on discount airfare. Sprint (or was it Verizon?) just fired a bunch of customers who were "too demanding." Small business owners (such as my parents), when they see that you are going to be a true pain in the ass to deal with, are going to upcharge their estimate.

Here's the small town business fact of life: Today, I'm selling you a cell phone. Tomorrow, I'm buying tires from you. I also have to face you at church. Our kids go to school together. So it's in my best interest to demonstrate integrity and good will.

As for the hooker clothing (and I am the parent of a modest 14 year old), I have no idea who's buying that crap -- certainly no one I allow my daughter to associate with.

Excellent article.
